Today we’re making a DIY bug spray to ward off flies, mosquitos, sand fleas and more…
- Witch hazel
- Carrier oil of choice (today I used EVOO)
- 10-20 drops of both lavender EO
- 10-20 drops of eucalyptus EO
- Top up with water
Notes: We are on a well and trust our water but if you live in the city or have chemically treated water, just boil some and let it cool completely, this will work just fine. Distilled water also works but will leach toxins found in plastics so opt for a glass jar.
Plants That Naturally Repel Bugs
Lavender: Place tied bouquets in your home to help keep flies outdoors.
Catnip: Many cats love catnip, but mosquitoes won’t come near it.
Rosemary: Grow it in various places around the garden, to repel mosquitoes and moths.
Citronella: Shop for citronella candles, torches, coils or the essential oil to make your own.
Marigold: Japanese beetles, squash bugs, thrips, hornworms, whiteflies, and nematodes.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Mix 50/50 with water, the acid reduces itch and help your bite heal faster. Witch Hazel: Apply directly to the skin for itching, pain, swelling, and inflammation. Tea Tree Oil: Apply oil directly to the affected area for immediate relief.
