In my book Be The Change: Your Guide to Elemental Growth I guide you through a year of transformation using natures cycles, as well as share all my favorite tools and resources but to keep things relevant today, I am going to get a lot deeper into Moving Meditation and EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE USING KUNDALINI YOGA so stick around!!!
Emotional intelligence describes the ability to understand your own feelings. It also provides insights on how your emotions influence your level of motivation and behavior patterns. The concepts of Emotional Intelligence have been around since the early 20th century, but the term was first introduced by Wayne Payne in 1985.
Emotional intelligence helps you build stronger relationships, succeed in all you do, and achieve your goals. It can also help you to connect with your feelings, turn passion into action, and make informed decisions about what matters most to you.
Emotional intelligence is commonly defined by four attributes: Self-Management, Self-Awareness, Social Awareness and Relationship Management. Shirzad Chamine took this a step further when he wrote the book on how to achieve one’s true potential for both professional success and personal fulfillment by identifying and conquering our top mental Saboteurs. Common Saboteurs include the Judge, Controller, Victim, Avoider, and Pleaser.
What most people don’t realize is how our emotions and feelings are a product of our hormonal output. Your glands work together with the nervous system to give you “experiences.” When the endocrine system is secreting properly, it is actually very difficult to feel bad. When the endocrine system is in balance, you are in balance. You feel good and can freely step into your infinite reality.
Yogis have known for millennia that if your hormones are in balance, there is no way you can be depressed because your emotions too, will be in balance. This is important personally and socially, as your emotions affect how you perceive the outside world. This brings us to Emotional Intelligence Using Kundalini Yoga
Secrets of the Kundalini
Kundalini Yoga, has been linked to law of attraction, opening up your full potential, and balancing your hormones. Kundalini Yoga derives from Kundalini, a Sanskrit term from ancient India that describes a rising of an energy and consciousness which has been coiled at the base of the spine since birth. This energy is the source of the life force (prana, chi, collective-consciousness) that everybody knows, and channeled upward through the chakras in the process of spiritual perfection.
Kundalini Yoga was kept very secret until 1969 when Yogi Bhajan taught it openly in order to prepare humanity for the major changes that this planet is going through as we cross from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age. Yogi Bhajan, the master of Kundalini yoga, was a hugely practical man. He wasn’t just a Yogi – he was a master of all realms, including business. He wanted people to be able to navigate all spaces of the human experience. Spiritual, emotional, financial, you name it. Kundalini Yoga has a vast collection of niche teachings for business, success, sales, money, wealth, and prosperity.
The things I’ve seen, felt, and experienced since introducing Kundalini into my life are all the proof of the universal forces at work. I learned that you don’t have to feel out of control, you can grab the wheel and change your destiny the moment you decide to believe that the universe is conspiring in your favor. Intentionally practicing Kundalini Yoga to match my emotions continues to help me overcome so many subconscious blockages that I created throughout my childhood and early 20’s.
Kundalini Yoga is an uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras, such as Sat Nam, meaning “truth is my name.” The goal is to build physical vitality, increase consciousness and adapt to any given expierence.
So many more people hit a glass ceiling in their journey to success. The nervous system is primed to handle only so much prosperity or love. And when it looks like a person might receive more (of anything: love, money, attention, recognition), that person will short-circuit. It’s just electrical mechanics. And considering that “person” is all of us, it’s worth having some kind of technology that strengthens the nervous network and allows for more beauty and wonder in life.
Kundalini is most often awakened through the process of Kundalini Yoga – which include Mantra, Meditation and Pranayama. Moving meditation can be a powerful practice to incorporate into our lives. So often we meditate while being still, as is the tradition in many lineages. However, the Buddha himself recommended practicing meditation while moving.
I encourage you to dedicate some time and energy to a moving meditation and have prepared a meditation to help you on your Elemental Growth journey:
To prepare for this meditation – you might want to tape record the words on this page to listen to as your move through the meditation. Please speak slowly and softly.
Allow lots of time for the meditation – as you will need to relax in Sivanasa when you are finished.
You may want to listen to music or be in a quiet place – or be in nature… free of distractions.
Adjust your clothing . . . footwear . . . eyeglasses.
Begin by assuming a cross-legged seated posture (don’t forget to keep that spine straight!) and touch the tips of your index finger and thumb on each hand. Quiet your mind . . . Still your thoughts.
Relax your body
Your face . . . your jaw . . . relaxing
Your shoulders . . . your neck . . . relaxed
Your arms . . . your hands . . . feel at peace.
Your torso . . . your hips . . . letting go
Your legs . . . your feet . . . totally relaxed
Focus on your breathing.
Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose.
Retain the breath as long as is comfortable.
Exhale through the mouth slowly and completely.
Repeat for two more breaths . . . or as is comfortable.
Begin chanting the mantra “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo” three times.
The next step is to Move your torso in a circular motion, visualizing the way the earth spins on its axis – first one direction, then the other
Now focus your attention on your chakras.
Starting from the top of your head visualize your crown chakra opening.
Watch as pure white light enters your Crown Chakra
and slowly spirals down through your spine
The white light is now opening your Third Eye Chakra
You may experience vibrant colors especially in blue, and violet . . .
As the white light moves down to your Throat Chakra releasing your blockages
Begin doing some neck rolls, one side, then the other
You may feel like chanting or singing
Allow the tones to resonant from your throat
Do this as long as is comfortable . . .
As the white light now enters your Heart Chakra, begin rolling your shoulders
Now make your hands into fists and bring them together at your heart center, begin to rotate them around each other in a circular motion – go faster and faster
Now stop, and hold them there still as long as you need
You may experience a feeling of unconditional love and compassion now
As the white light enters your Solar Plexus Chakra, use your arms to rotate your torso left to right, inhaling and exhaling with the movement
Gently your fears – anger – tensions are released.
As the white light enter your Sacral Chakra, you can do a side stretch, first one side, then the other – breathing in slowly on each side
This movement releases pain and guilt linked to that chakra
As the white light now enters your Root Chakra (the seat of your kundalini energy), it begins to activate the Kundalini energy of the base of your spine
Feel the energy suddenly emerge from your Root Chakra and begin spiraling up through the base of your spine as if it were a coiled snake.
The coiled snake represents the spiraling DNA – opening, activating, bringing you to higher levels of consciousness
Allow the energy to flow through your chakras, visualize the chakra wheels rotating
When you are ready – return your consciousness to your physical body
Relax in Sivanasa and balance your energies.
When your finished you can tune out with the mantra “Sat Nom”
You may want to drink some water, and focus on eating colourful whole foods throughout the rest of your day.
