Mikao Usui was the founder of a form of spiritual practice known as Reiki, used as an alternative therapy for the treatment of physical, emotional, and mental diseases. His teachings consisted of five principles that help you lead a healthier and happier life.
The principles are traditionally worded a bit differently but I prefer to use more empowering words because it helped me to cultivate more confidence, self-worth and clarity. As I adapted each principle and made them my own, I naturally created a 5-step blueprint to self- love. Let’s look at each step in more detail.
Step 1: Just for today I will stay present with my breath
Breath work is one of the best ways to eliminate toxicity in your life. Breath is our life force energy and allows us to be present eliminating the fears that often lead us to become angry or drift in and us of the present moment.
Step 2: Just for today I will transform worry to confidence
Have you ever held yourself back from doing something because you felt scared? This is where I invite you to transform that energy into confidence. Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of awareness and belief in yourself to break through and live your life with unshakable confidence.
Step 3: Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings
Gratitude is the salt of the spiritual world. It makes everything better and all you have to do is make the choice to sprinkle it on everything to activate it’s natural flavor enhancing properties.
Step 4: Just for today I will do my work honestly
We all have a job to do. Maybe this is a job for money, job for passion, job for health or job for spirituality. Maybe its something else totally, but its your job to do it to the best of your ability everyday. This means being honest with yourself, others and all concerned.
Step 5: Just for today I will be kind to all living things
When was the last time you laughed with someone having a bad day, held a door open for your neighbour or smiled at a stranger? Practicing acts of kindness everyday will enhance your entire perspective on life. This is not just about people either being kind to the creatures, plants and planet is the best way we can kind to ourselves.
